Ripley, Oklahoma

Ripley OK Real Estate, Ripley area and Community Information

Ripley, Oklahoma, is a community with about 400 residents that is situated in north-central Oklahoma. This Payne County community is about 10 miles southeast of Stillwater and the campus of Oklahoma State University. Ripley is just a modest drive to Oklahoma City, which is located to the south-southwest of town. Over a thousand farms remain in Payne County, and some are found near Ripley.

History

The area was first settled during the so-called Oklahoma land run of 1889. Soon after the land run began on April 22, farmers began to plant their crops to take advantage of the growing season that was fast approaching. Throughout Payne County, businesses, schools and government offices were quickly built in response to the rapid growth that followed. In fact, Oklahoma A&M was established in Stillwater the following year. The school would later become Oklahoma State University, which now employs more people in the county than any other business or organization.

Parks and Recreation

Anglers with Ripley OK homes will find Cushing Lake just to the east. This reservoir holds largemouth, spotted and smallmouth bass, channel catfish, walleyes, crappies and other desirable species. A resort on the lake caters to the needs of fishermen.
